SAGA is a fantastic game.
Especially when it is in a fantasy setting.
We decided to bring together GW/Warhammer Fantasy and SAGA - Age of Magic to play a short campaign representing the invasion of Ulthuan by the Goblin warlord Grom the Paunch.
The old Warhammer Fantasy High Elves
I still had my old Games Workshop Warhammer Fantasy High Elves from the 90s, but many were painted in my inferior childhood painting style. Fortunately I have Dettol that can fix that right up.

The elves don't look so bad in this photo. At least I was able to colour inside the lines even when I was a kid. |
|
Years ago I'd tried to paint the elves better, with a black undercoat instead of white. Not terrible, but not ideal. |

The Mage of the 2000s
Only a few of my High Elves from the 90s have acceptable paint jobs:
|
The mage - the leader around whom this band of determined elves will coalesce. |
|
I can remember being very happy with the stormy sea design on the cloak. Some of my skills have degraded since c.2000 and I can't seem to do this anymore. |

Clean after the dettol (mostly). |
The Initial Repaints

Prototypes for the new paint scheme. |
I returned to using black spray undercoat after all. I tried medium-thinned paint over white undercoat but did not like the effect. The shields used water-thinned paint to get the sky and sea effect though. Not as good as I was in 2000 but it will have to do. |

A newly painted batch ready for the spray lacquer. |
Comparing old Warhammer with Oathmark?
At some point I planned to use Oathmark Elves as elf scouts or Shadow Warriors. The scales do not match exactly, but close enough to fight on the same battlefield in different units. The Oathmark miniatures are great, by the way.
